Applying to the Order

Applying for Admission to the Order

If after sufficient time and contact with the Vocation Director you feel ready to take your discernment to the next level, your next step is to request an application to the Order. The application process is meant to be an experience of discernment through which you and the Friars enter into an honest and prayerful reflection. The goal of the admission process is, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to discover the will of God in regards to your Dominican vocation. In order to help us get to know you, the Admission Application requires you to provide some specific information, including:

  • An autobiography - detailing your personal and spiritual journey
  • Birth certificate
  • Baptismal certificate with confirmation notation
  • Academic transcripts
  • Physical, dental, and ophthalmologic examination
  • Psychological assessment by a clinical psychologist (the Province will pay for this exam)
  • Criminal background check
  • Letters of recommendation

Once the application is complete, the Vocation Director will schedule you to meet with the Province Admission Board. The Board consists of three friars, specially chosen by the Province. The applicant meets with each of the three friars individually for no more than one hour each. After the interviews, the members of the Admission Board meet with the Prior Provincial to discuss whether they feel the candidate has the necessary maturity and calling to enter the Novitiate. Soon after the last interview, the Candidate meets with the Prior Provincial and the Vocation Director to find out the decision of the Board.
