With a sad and heavy heart, we pray for the eternal soul of Fr. Ed Everitt, who was killed Monday afternoon, July 11, 2011 in Waveland, Mississippi. Fr. Ed was spending a few days of vacation at the Waveland house which had been rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina. Fr. Ed’s death is under investigation, though a suspect has been arrested.
Fr. Ed served as pastor of Holy Ghost and Our Lady of Pompeii Churches in Hammond and Tickfaw, Louisiana since shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He was also a key leader at Holy Ghost School, Tangipahoa Parish's largest Catholic school, and had served many years ago as an associate at St. Albert's Catholic Church on the SLU campus, in Hammond, Louisiana.
Fr. Ed’s tragic death leaves a deeply-felt void in all our lives. Fr Ed was a man of great energy, both preaching and caring for others. Fr Ed will be profoundly missed by his blood family, his Dominican family and all whom he has served as a Dominican and priest over his many years of ministry. We ask for your prayers for his family and his Dominican community.
A memorial Mass in his memory is scheduled at Holy Ghost Church in Hammond, Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 7 p.m.
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. ” Matthew 5:3-7
